Proofreading
A proofreader's role is to identify and rectify any errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and layout that have slipped through the net at the typesetting and copy-editing stages, and to ensure your publication is as close to perfection as is possible.
When proofreading for you, therefore, I will do my utmost to ensure the following:

Correction of errors in typing and spelling

Correction of incorrect or missing punctuation

Resolution of confusing or ambiguous use of words or expressions

Correction of incorrect paragraph formatting

Resolution/correction of clumsy/misleading word-breaks

Adherence to, or the creation of, a text style guide

Correction of errors in running headers and page numbers

Cross-checking of chapter numbers/ titles and the table of contents

Correction of incorrect column alignment

Correction of any mislabelling of pictures, diagrams and illustrations
-
Cross-checking of references within the text to other parts and end matter (appendices, index, etc.)

I work either on paper using British Standards Institution (BSI) mark-up symbols or electronically using Track Changes in Microsoft Word.
