A proofreader's role is to identify and rectify any errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and layout that have slipped through the net at the typesetting and copy-editing stages, and to ensure your publication is as close to perfection as is possible.

When proofreading for you, therefore, I will do my utmost to ensure the following:

  • Correction of errors in typing and spelling

  • Correction of incorrect or missing punctuation

  • Resolution of confusing or ambiguous use of words or expressions

  • Correction of incorrect paragraph formatting

  • Resolution/correction of clumsy/misleading word-breaks

  • Adherence to, or the creation of, a text style guide

  • Correction of errors in running headers and page numbers

  • Cross-checking of chapter numbers/ titles and the table of contents

  • Correction of incorrect column alignment

  • Correction of any mislabelling of pictures, diagrams and illustrations

  • Cross-checking of references within the text to other parts and end matter (appendices, index, etc.)
